Wednesday, September 12th, 2007    Subscribe To Our FeedIf you have been searching for a profession that is rewarding, helps others, and is one of the fastest growing segments of the job market, then teaching may be just right for you. Statistics state that about 1 out of every 4 Americans are enrolled in a school, college or university. As a result, education services have become the 2nd largest industry in the United States, with over 13 million educational jobs. This is why a distance learning teaching degree can be the road to a better career and better future.
The Requirements
Most teaching positions require, at a minimum, a bachelor’s degree while some schools and colleges are demanding a master’s degree over even a PHD. Earning a bachelor degree in education, masters of education or PHD online can be an investment that will last a lifetime. An online teaching degree is offered by many major colleges and universities through online programs, some of which are accelerated.
The Compensation
Teaching salaries are rising nicely, too. The American Federation of Teachers determined the average annual salary for all public elementary and secondary school teachers to be close to $50,000, and is expected to rise significantly as the demand for degreed teachers increases. The average, or median, salary for the post-secondary teachers is even higher at just over $54,000.
A Growth Profession
The job market for secondary school teachers is expected to grow by up to 17% by the year 2014, so the demand will be steadily increasing over the next decade. Of even greater interest is that the demand for post-secondary teaching positions is expected to grow at even a faster pace. It is projected that this field will grow by at least 27% over the next decade. That’s what we would call job security!
The Bureau of Labor Statistics has identified teaching as one of the top growth professions over the next decade. So, pursuing a distance learning teaching degree, whether it is a bachelor, masters, or PHD in education, will allow you to participate in this exciting and growing profession.
If your current position is taking you nowhere and you want to make a difference, why not check out a few of the online teaching courses and programs offered at some of the leading online colleges and universities.
