Forensic Science Colleges Should be Opted on for Their Quality and Teaching.
Thursday, November 26th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIf you are interested in a career in forensic science, you will need to earn a degree from one of the accredited forensic science colleges. The American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) or Forensic Science Education Programs Accreditation Commission (FEPAC) accredits schools that offer bachelor’s or master’s degrees which are preferantial to simply getting your associate’s degree. You will require about 5 years to do a bachelor’s degree.
Research all the different courses offered at FEPAC approved forensic science schools. Depending on what area you want to work in, there is a course that has that specific focus in mind. Bachelors degrees are usually meant for those who wish to work in a lab but not supervise. Working in a DNA lab is best suited if you attend SUNY Albany and take their master’s degree program, and attending a forensic science degree program at Cedar Crest College is more appropriate for students who want to analyse crime scenes.
A forensic science degree is easier for students who had the foresight to prepare in high school by debating and increasing their oral skills and doing as many science classes as possible. Biology or chemistry bachelor’s degrees are acceptable replacements for forensic science degrees if you have no choice.
Forensic science schools that offer master’s degree courses are very selective in who they admit, so you will need to meet certain conditions, including passing immunology, molecular biology, calculus, biochemistry, physics, genetics and biostatistics classes before you apply. Additionally, you should have a bachelor’s degree already and have passed the GRE exam. If ever you worked in forensics before, that is an asset as well. Crime Scene Reconstruction and Pattern Analysis, Trace Evidence and Microscopy, and Forensic Molecular Biology and Population Statistics are classes offered at Cedar Crest College that master’s degree students without any experience in the field must enroll in.
You will want to practice your skills as a forensic technician in a lab, so check to see that there is one connected to the school you want to attend. It is beneficial if the forensic science colleges you are looking into offer internships and research sections of the forensic science degree program.
Students with nothing to taint their records are the only ones considered for forensic science colleges. Your employment candidacy will most likely require you to have never used drugs or have a criminal record. You will most likely have to submit to a background check, fingerprinting, drug testing, and a polygraph test in order to get a job.
